Shema’s Fight to Walk Again

Shema is 15 years old, lives in Chak Narayanpur, Muktagacha, Mymensingh, and studies in class 9 at Muktagacha R.K. Model Government High School. She is the eldest of three siblings. Her father is a truck Driver and the family lives in a rented house.

At the age of 7, Seema was severely injured after being thrown to the ground by another child’s older sister while playing. Her right leg bone fractured, and despite multiple treatments at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, her condition worsened. She suffered repeated fractures, infections, and had to undergo continuous dressing and long-term treatment. The family spent much money as they can, which pushed them into serious financial hardship. They could not afford advanced treatment in Dhaka, and even faced eviction for unpaid rent. Her father eventually stopped supporting her treatment.

Later, relatives and community members helped, and she was admitted to Dhaka Orthopedic (Pangu) Hospital, where she underwent five surgeries and had metal rings placed on her leg. Despite her physical challenges, Seema continued her education with support from her teachers, who taught her at home.

PCC Coordinator, Mr. Rajon Been, noticed Seema’s condition and took the initiative to support her treatment. With PCC’s financial assistance, she underwent another surgery and had a new ring placed on her leg. Doctors say that with regular check-ups and long-term medication, her recovery is possible. Seema’s leg is now improving, and she can walk with using crutch. PCC will continue to support her with surgery and medicine until she fully recovers.

Her family requests continued support so that Seema can heal and live a normal life. The family and community appreciate PCC’s efforts to help her.
